What’s included in the charter?
Captain, Crew, Bait, Tackle, etc.. are all included in most packages. Specialty trips such a Bahamas and tournaments have separate fees depending on the logistics of the trip. Your fishing license is included with your booking, as you will fish under our licensure. We hold up to date permits and highly migratory species are included under our license as well.
What type of fishing do you offer?
We love Kite Fishing, but can also take you bottom fishing, trolling, deep dropping, daytime or nighttime swordfishing, and more!
Do I need fishing experience to join?
We accommodate anglers of all skill levels. Experience is a great thing to have on board any boat, but all are welcome aboard one step ahead.
What amenities are on board?
One Step Ahead is a 64’ Viking C, she has a fully air-conditioned interior which is complete with a neatly kept salon, galley, a guest state room to starboard, a master stateroom to port, and a VIP stateroom all the way forward. Our vessel features stable marine head and plumbing systems- though we do ask our guests to use them delicately. We have sunscreen, water bottles, and typical soft drinks. Leave your coolers in the car, as we have refrigerated drink boxes and storage throughout both the interior and exterior of the boat. Live TV and several entertainment centers throughout the boat.
What should I bring?
We recommend all our guests bring their preferred sunscreen, hats, polarized sunglasses, a camera, long sleeve shirts / and protective clothing. You may wear sandals, but we suggest rubber boots, or tennis shoes if possible.
Where do we depart from and when should I arrive?
We are located at 1900 SE 15th St, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33316 we will provide you with parking instructions and a slip number upon confirmation of your booking.
Can I bring my own equipment or food?
You are more than welcome to bring your own equipment, but we ask to keep it to a minimum simply because we want to minimize use of space within the cockpit. We use some of the finest tackle available, so we invite and encourage you to use our equipment. Food and non-alcoholic beverages are provided. Before the trip, you will be provided with a selection sheet to determine preferences in advance.
What types of fish can we expect to catch?
Fishing changes throughout the seasons. The species we may encounter include Tuna, Wahoo, Sailfish, Cobia, and deepwater species such as Swordfish, Golden Tilefish, and more.
Is catch-and-release available or can I keep my catch?
Catch and release is always an option; However we encourage the release of Sailfish, and Marlin to help maintain their population in South Florida. There are many species of fish that may only be harvested certain times of year, and/or must be of size in order to keep.
Do you clean or filet the fish we catch?
We do clean your fish and provide you with ready to eat fillets that are portioned out and divided to share amongst your party.
Is the charter family-friendly?
While we accept family members of all ages, we ask our clients to use their best judgement while bringing their loved ones offshore.
How many guests can the boat accommodate?
USCG only allows up to six guests (not including crew) aboard the boat for charter purposes. This is local regulation, not a rule made on our behalf.
Is the boat USCG certified and are your crew licensed?
